Hi Guys
I have only ever had one example of this type in my collection, so here is some pics. I would love to get one or two more in my collection.

Would anybody else like to post pics of transitionals from their collection in this thread?

Cheers
Robert

Hi Ray
Considering the condition of the helmet the decal is in great shape. The most important bit IMHO.

Cheers

Nice lids gents!

Here is an Austro-Hungarian M17, Transitional helmet from my collection. I found this helmet at a flea market at Moss Landing, CA, literally right next to the pier over the Pacific. It was a real bargain, which very rarely ever happens.

According to B.Bell, "The Reichswehr converted a large number of Austrian helmets to German use, and many were pressed into service between 1934 and 1940."

The size stamp on these are located on the outer top and this one is a "64"
A remaint of the last issue tag still barely clings to the chinstrap lug.
Though the decal is still in decent shape, this helmet has seen it's share of action and must have a great history having gone thru two world wars plus.

Regards,

Marcus

This helmet has four layers of paint:

1.WWI, Austrian brown 1917
2.Reichswehr, light pea green, 1919-1935
3.Wehrmacht, dark green, 1935-40
4.Heer, Volkssturm, HJ, late war issue, textured olive green, 1940-1945

That is one beautiful Austrian Trans.! The early, grey shaded eagle looks great!
My Trans. had the same color pea/apple green paint as yours does and I've often wondered if there are two more decals under the textured grey/ green paint.

I've gone through all of the headgear posts, and you have one fine helmet collection.

Marcus

Hello guys,
Great helmets and thread. Here is my example (M-18), it was obtained at a yard sale for around $35 back in 1989.

The helmet has its original M-18 liner and chinstrap (I added the balck string to the liner).

Regards,
Jody

Sweet helmet Jody, and at a great price, even for 1989.
