Nice looking badge, but it looks more like an HJ knife diamond than a hat badge. I believe the hat badges have thicker pins and are sharply pointed to pierce the hat material. How thick are the pins, quite thin and bendy or quite sturdy?

Nice HJ emblem. Is there a differance between the hat badge and the grip emblem on the knife? Here's a photo of two that I have . The one on the right is like yours and is off a knife. I woudle think pinning the wider pins through the hat would be a pain. the thinner ones are a little sturdier.

Raymond, I don't believe there is a difference between the badges themselves but more the type of pins for attachment. I stand to be corrected, but I believe the thicker and pointier pins are for hats. Thinner pins for knives, which is often why some knife diamonds are springy when pressed, particularly if they haven't been fitted very well at assembly.

You may very well be correct. NowI need to look at my other cap badges and see what kind of set-up they have. Raymond, from your image of badge in knife grip I would say knife diamond. Robert:)

Russel, that's exactly what I was thinking. I did put the badge on top of one another and they are the same size . just the prongs are different.
