Hopefully the first of many nice pices to appear on this forum.

A cased S&L RK.

I hope our good friend Dietrich will add his comments and tell us a brief history of this particular 'type' of RK.

There are additional pictures of the case on the cases and packets forum.

Very nice indeed, Allan.

The RK is in wonderful condition and with its original case to boot.

As Allan already indicated briefly - the topic of S&L Knights Crosses is a very long and at times heated subject. But to make a long story short, S&L had one die and this die failed during the war. On this die the so called A-Type was produced (all genuine) and Allan's cross is such an A-Type. After the repair the flood of different cross types entered the market. The first one - IMHO - was the 935-4 which I(and the majority of collectors) consider to be pre May 1945. The next model - again IMHO - was the 800-4 which some consider pre May 1945, some post May 1945. It can't be proven at this time conclusively one way or the other but I have to say that the 'made-up" provenance of a Hamburg dealer ("several awarded in June 1944") does not help to give credibility to this type.

After that, we find 800, incuse, 800, 935, magnetic cores and brass cores and even Neusilver frames. Several dealers and experts spent their time in the last 15 years to write COAs for all theses types and made ton's of money with it.

The investigations however showed that it can be proven w/o doubt that theses models are post war and with that about 50% of the RK market went down the drain.

Now one could think that the dealers would bow to this scientific findings. But that is only the case with the honest ones - the shady ones use the same argument they always did "I know and you don't. Believe me, it's real!"
