Here are two Kriegsmarine uniforms that I have in my collection.

The first is the mess dress jacket and blue vest that once belonged to Vizeadmiral von dem Borne (this was his Kapitan's dress jacket). He was awarded the German Cross in Silver on 31 July 1944 and was also the recipient of the War Merit Cross First and Second Class with Swords (the second class award is shown on his lapel as a small ribbon). Also included were his EK1 (1914), sewn on ribbon bar and the cloth version of the St. John's Cross. The admiral was an administrator, who worked in Berlin. He was killed in Berlin in early May 1945.

The second is a reefer jacket once belonging to Knight's Cross recipient Korvettenkapitan Rudolf Heynsen of Minesweepers. He bought this jacket from a tailor in Cuxhaven in January 1945 and his RK portrait is in this jacket. He was awarded the Knight's Cross on Hitler's last birthday: 20 April 1945.

Bob,

Both very stunning and distinguished looking jackets. On the reefer jacket, what is pinned on the lower left breast pocket. It looks black, and my eyes ain't so good.

Mark,

Thank you. I'm quite happy with these in my collection. To answer your question, I'm not sure as this was the seller's photos. I think in another photo he is wearing a Wound Badge in Black.

Bob

Well I think that is a Wound Badge in Black. Cannot think of anything else it could be. I'm seeking a service cap like this or a really nice Kriegsmarine Officers Overseas Cap if anybody has one available.

An amazing piece of KM history you have there, Bob. Simply outstanding!

Thank you, Rob. For these all I need now is a service cap and a KM officer overseas cap. The originals are tough to find, but that is what collecting is all about - THE HUNT!!!

Hi Bob,
Wondering if you can help me with a question. First of all nice uniforms. I recently picked up a donald duck cap and the sweatband was removed. The seller told me this was acommon practice due to the leather absorbing the sea salts. I've been collecting german militaria for 29 years and never heard this although I'm not a big KM collector. Can you help me out with this. Thanks and best wishes............................................ ......MARK

Mark,

I'd ask Eduardo (KM-Spain) that question, as he is the real KM collector. I'm just a beginner Wehrmacht collector myself.

Finally picked up a KM Officer Service Cap for the mid-grade officer (Korvettenkapitan to Kapitan)... really nice piece; unnamed but really nice. Here it is with my Kapitan zur See jacket.

Thank you, Ron, but I collect uniforms and caps. I seldom need insignia except for the occasional restoration, which I try my best to avoid.
