Here is a simple rule for checking if your badge is bad-
Genuine large Deschler GPBs (and that's all large GPBs, as only Deschler made them) all have 9 oakleaves per side.
Small Deschler GPBs all have 8 oakleaves per side.
Small Fuess GPBs all have 7 oakleaves per side.
Now of course this doesn't mean your badge is automatically good if it has 9, 8 or 7 leaves, but if it doesn't, it is bad.

Great rule. I usually start with the number of leaves and then look at the lettering. By the time you get through counting the leaves and lettering on the front it seems like you can rule out most of the really bad fakes. :)

That's right - Deschler was the only maker of the large badge, and also made a small version. Fuess (who also made the Blood Order) was the only other maker of the small. Any other makers / markings are fake.
