Just got this today. Has the correct iron core. Does this look like a good one and if so any idea who the maker was?

Do you think that the core has been repainted?

George. It is possible but the paint looks old and faded! I guess I could take a little acetone on a cotton swab and see if it comes off?

I've removed overlaid paint with acetone before (on a 1914 EK 1 that had obviously -- and poorly -- been repainted). Why don't you try a little, like where the paint seems to be going up on the frame?

George. I rubbed acetone on every part of the cross and no paint comes off! I even rubbed the swastika hard and the paint is still there. Tried the edges where you said no paint was removed.
