It may indeed be a long shot but with a higher resolution scan posted, it will certainly be a lot easier to help in the identification process.

Hopefully this might make it a little easier to identify without losing too much detail.

Is there any writing on the rear of the photo or any other clues as to who the Officer might be?

Hi Richard,
many thanks, unfortunatly there is no writing on the revesrse.
The original is postcard sized on Agfa paper.
He does not have loads of awards (EK1) ,so maybe early war?
