Hi,

A few years ago I bought these two SS photo's.
But the guy at the left has an Heer eagle on his cap ?
Is this something rare ?

Kind regards, Jeroen Z.

I have seen it in other photos too.

So I think it was not really unusual. ;)

It's an army-issue field cap.

He's just placed a TK over the cockade.

This was common early in the war.

Hi guys,

Taking into account the risk of being stupid for it, may I ask what a TK is? :blushing:

Very best regards,

Hey ... HI Stefan :w00t:

Thanks for that 1 *LOL* I couldn't figure it out ... that slang you SS-guys use :blushing: I was trying to fit a Kreuz into that K, but it didn't make much sense, 'cause, where would it leave the T? Anyway, thank you Stefan!

Sincerely,
Karin-Renate

Soooohww ... OK, as I'm busy anyway ... what, errrr, exactly is the guy on the right wearing on his head? :confused1:

It looks like a Mückenschleier!

Do you know what I mean, Karin-Renate? :)

YES! *LOL* mosquito-netting  BUT, I figured, djeez, those SS guys, the cream of the most-upper-top-shelve-crop, they wouldn't be wearing that  It would be, like, going to a Shining (http://www.myspace.com/shininghalmstad) gig wearing your zuidwester (http://jeugdsentimenten.net/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/regenpak.jpg) so, I thought, maybe he's a beekeeper or something? Or some SS-gas-force-personnel? Anyway, thanks again Stefan :thumbup1:

If I'm right there were certain places in Russia were you were almost eaten up by the mosquitos. :w00t:

Mosquito-netting was often used in various areas (tropical and Russia) in all kind of colors.
In volume 2 of the series "Headgear of Hitler's Germany", chapter about Waffen-SS, two photographs are included on page 52 where such netting was in use in white and black.
Also army eagles were quite often used. The metal version was the often worn form by volunteers from Belgium (same book, page 16, 18, 30, 38 and 45)

Well, add the Netherlands to that ... the better part of a year I'm eaten ALIVE by pesky mosquitos ... always picking on me they are :sneaky2: Not sure if that is 'cause someone smells good or bad, but, djeez, if it isn't enough them stealing fluid from ya, nooo, they simply HAVE to inject poison in that there freshly drilled hole in y'r skin they steal from as well :glare:

Hi Wim, both Wims, even!

Thanks for that info! That series's gettin' mentioned more + more, I think there's 1 part of it headed over here if I recall correctly. Probably not this specific 1, but still, looking forward to it :thumbup1:

Volunteers from Belgium, those were called "het zwarte legioen" or simply "zwarten" weren't they? Don't ANYONE go making the mistake of taking that word for how it is used NOW by racist individuals! Just making that VERY clear  Zwarten being sneakily lured into joining up an'goin to the Eastern front by false education on Bolshevism and how Russia would overrun Europe? Does any insignia make these 3 guys Zwarten?

Sincerely,
Karin-Renate
