Hi

I bought this ring 3 years ago as I wanted to look more closely at how some of the fakes are produced.

I did not pay much and it is was worth what I did pay to get my hands on an original fake ring:biggrin:

Hopefully, members will find the images interesting to compare with original rings.

If anyone else has bought a fake ring for research purposes, then please post it up to add to the thread.

Finally, the inscription.

I am not so interested in a thread on 'How to spot a fake ring', as members will be able to spot the differences when you compare them against known originals.

I forget to take a shot of the witness mark, but I can assure you that it is as bad as the rest of the ring.

Hope you find this useful

The only fake I own is a Peichl. A postwar copy made by one of the original Gahr jewelers. Certainly a collectable item in its' own right.

Now that is an interesting post of a Gahr post-war ring. Thanks for sharing the image with us.

Do you have any additional images to share with us as I find that really interesting.

Yes, you are right, it is a collectors piece in itself.

yeah man!! thats a postwar copy I wouldn't mind having!!
Anything in the band?
Don for a while had a relationship with him and could get rings from him with your name in them. A couple GDC members did buy them and they are very glad they did!!

Derek,,if you don't mind when you get the chance, could you post a few shots of your ring right here on this topic? Thanks , G.

You asked for more pics and here they are.
For the most part, the external portion of the ring looks extremely good. There are a few flaws that the astute collector would notice. The internal engraving gives it away. You can tell the style of engraving is the same, just not as crisp and clean...but you must remember that this ring was produced relatively recently and Herr Peichl's "penmanship" had deteriorated as everyone's does with age.
I picked this up from a gentleman on an online auction site who had purchased it from Don Boyle. In addition, I have a hand written letter from Don stating that this ring was produced by an original Gahr jeweler post-war. I emailed pics of the ring to Don before I purchased it and he confirmed that it was indeed a Peichl.
Also note, there is no recipient name in this one.
