This is Hamm Cemetery in Luxembourg, where General Patton is buried at the head of his fallen comrades. There is a German Cemetery up the road but unfortunately I didn't have time to go there.

Here's a link for further information.

Interestingly Patton's grave faces the rest of the graves in the cemetery as though he is addressing the soldiers. That is atypical of US cemeteries in Europe where all graves face forward.

Here are two photos I took in the 1990s. The first is the spot where Patton’s car accident occurred near Mannheim, Germany. The second is the hospital in Heidelberg (on Campbell Barracks) where he was treated and finally died. To find the location of the accident I was an issue of After the Battle magazine covered the incident.

Sad are the persistent conspiracy theories that allege that Patton was murdered; not killed as a result of injuries received in an auto accident. A quick Internet search will yield several of these theories. All of them demonstrate the same recycled rumors and innuendos and show the authors’ complete ignorance of how the US Army operates and what takes place when a senior General Officer is killed while on active duty.

Few people know that Fort Meade, Maryland was the first home of the US Army tank corps and that George Patton was stationed there immediately after WWI. Here is the the site of Patton's headquarters (he was a brigade commander) and the historical plaque that marks the spot today. Sadly, the headquarters building is long gone. The photos were taken on 16 August 2008.
