I appreciate that a great deal has been written concerning Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg and the events culminating on 20-July-1944 however, after watching 'Valkyrie' recently I have developed an interest in this event and would like to research further into the details of v. Stauffenberg, the conspirators and the events themselves.
To that end, can anyone recommend the most authorative and accurate books written on the subject? All I have at the moment is the section dedicated to these events in 'Berlin Then and Now' and 'Valkyrie: The Plot To Kill Hitler' by Philipp von Boeselager (which I shall be starting in the very near future)
Any help whatsoever will be very well received indeed. Many thanks in anticipation.
Regards Richard.

...I have yet to read it but just thought that I'd point you in it's direction - it seems to have good reviews.

They would have to be Opposition part I & II by Hans Adolf-Jacobsen in 1984. (dont know if you can understand German though ?) Maybe they are also in English? Anyway, it`s about all the facts, and background information on the people.

I have also heard "Countdown to Valkyrie" is a good book, and while I have it on my shelf, I haven't cracked it yet.

hucks216 and MikeC thanks for the 'heads up' on 'Countdown to Valkyrie', it seems to have received some positive reviews so far, I will indeed find myself a copy. However, I would still be interested to hear your personal opinions on the book.

Jo thanks also for the info on 'Opposition Part I & II', unfortunatly I cannot read German sufficiently enough for these books, which is a shame as they also look interesting.
Any more recommendations on the matter of the most authorative and accurate books written on the subject?
Regards Richard.

'Countdown to Valkyrie' has duly arrived through the letter box and I have to say that the first impressions are very good indeed.
Highly detailed and obviously deeply researched, just my kind of book. Thanks for the recommendations.
Regards Richard.
