Hi

Resizing images to upload onto the forum can sometimes be a tricky task if you do not have access to the software.

This is for members who have not got Photoshop or any other photo editing software and want a quick, free and painfree piece of software to enable them to re-size images to upload on the forum.

I have been testing Irfanview and it does what it says on the tin and is easy to use.

It can be downloaded from their homepage: http://www.irfanview.com/

First of all, be aware of the image size limits for uploading images. Please see the attachment sizes below. So, the maximum is 800 x 800.

The table of allowable sizes is shown below.

Step 1.

Open the image you wish to resize.

If you are using an image from a digital camera or scanner, you will see only a small part of the image. Nothing to be concerned about there and that is normal

Step 2

Click 'IMAGE', then 'RESIZE/RESAMPLE'

Step 3

In the Resize/resample image options, enter the new values for the image in the 'Set new size' box.

If you enter 800 in the box with the highest width or height then it will automatically calculate the effect on the other dimension.

For example, your image pixel size is 1782 (width) x 1659 (height). Enter the 800 value in the box with the highest value (1782). This will resize the other dimension to 745 (height).

Then you need to click the 'Save' icon at the top. This will open up two screens. One to ask where you want the image to be sent. The other is some extra settings. You do not need to change anything if you do not wish to.

Remember when you save the file to rename it or save it to a different folder. If not you may overwrite your existing original image. It will warn you before performing the action in case you forget.

Step 4

Now your image is ready for uploading onto the forum.

Tip! If you wish to watermark your image (I would advise this for photographs) then check out this free software that takes the pain out of watermarking. I tested many and this is by far the easiest to use.

So that is it. Feel free to use the testing forum to test out posting attachments and images before you feel confident to post in the main forum if you are new to forums and how the software works.

Happy re-sizing! :)
