Hi! Please give an opinion on this beauty; I want to know if somebody can assure to which period it belongs (my guess is pre III Reich) also interested in knowing which maker (I think the main makers for such pieces are Eickhorn & WKC but not sure) Thanks in advance & best regards.

My guess is pre Third Reich too. The ones that were awarded as a presentation or purchased as a memento of service during the TR are almost always are the same old imperial designs. The only way you can tell if the piece was awarded, and or possibly made, during the TR period is if there is a presentation with a TR time period date. You must be careful though, as these presentations are easy to fake. The presented examples with TR time period dates naturally bring more money. A perfect reason for someone to ruin a good piece to make more money on the sale.

By the way Horster made examples too. The period examples have the war time Horster maker mark on the cover plate where the handle comes through the axe head.

Presentation axes can get very elaborate depending on the initial money spent, ivory handles, gold plated fittings......

Late Imperial-early Weimar perhaps? Is this one for sale? If so, I have an idea of who it belongs to.

Like Chuck said, the plates are easily embellished. It becomes a study of the engraving, etching, etc., mechanism which the plate was marked.

Attached is an example from Wittmans site for those not familiar with these presentation fire axes. Obviously this one's a little more elaborate. He's asking roughly $7K for it.

Hi Swordfish! I just bought it, the photos were provided by the seller as I didn't received it yet. The example from Wittman is a real beauty! I love these ivory handled axes, such engravings! Mine is the plain honour axe without any engraved plate, I guess an award for years of service. Obviously I paid much less than 7k, as a clue I bought from a guy in Sttugart, he told me the axe belongs to a high fireman officer from the city of Cologne...who knows!
Hi chuck! I will add Horster as a posible maker, when the axe arrives I will post new photos but I don't think it has any mark. Best regards.

Nacho-

Right on.

Wanted to ask you about your screen name. Is it based off the old commercial character "Naco Man" from Tostidos tortilla and cheese sauce? Remember.."Nacho nacho, nacho man, I want to a nacho man"?

Hi Tom! Not really, 'Nacho' is the nickname in Spanish for Ignatius which is my real name, anyway I love Nachos & cheese. :) What I don't know is that character you've mentioned, I guess Tostidos is not an exisiting brand here...Best regards.

Ahh, I see.

Ignatius, back aroiund '99-'00 a brand of tortillla chips called Tostidos (made by Frito Ley I believe) were making commercials with an overweight American, shoveling the rounded, scoup shaped chips loaded up with nacho cheese sauce into his mouth while dancing around to the Villiage Peoples "Mach Man", with the lyrics exchanged for "Nacho Man" apposed to "Macho Man".:D I tried to find it on YouTube to link it but I didn't see it.

I guees I should have known about the nickname seeing i was born in Espana...Rota..Naval Air Station Rota. You should see our old photo slides of La Guardia Civil patroling the beaches in front of our base officer housing. They would creep up to the sliding glass door in the late evening, knock and say "Buenas noches Senorita. Tiene cigarrettes? Si, quiero. Gracias Senorita"...ahh the days of Francisco Franco. It was a good idea to have La Guardia on your side if you know what I mean. We have one of their hats somewhere in the house which was traded for Gold only knows what...probably American cigs.."Welcome to flavor country..Marlboro".

Hi Tom! I'll try to find the video to check it (now I'm curious to see...) Nice to know you was born in sunny Spain! in which years did you lived here? I some time ago I guess, la guardia civil has changed a lot from the 70's-80's. I'm from Madrid but like Cadiz a lot! :thumbup1:never have been in Rota but is well know military base for all the people here. The hat is called 'tricornio' and is shape becomes from a military hat in the old XVII-XVIII centuries. The guy in the photo is wearing a 19th century uniform with his tricornio while guarding the Palacio Real in Madrid. Best regards.

We were there once, and a civilian, a dependant of an officer (the son) got caught by La Guardia with a bag of pot on one of the beaches, and he was jailed for 24 months (so we were told), even with the embassay asking for clemency. No such luck, and the kid had to do his time. Yes times have changed. Thanks for the info on the hat. We have a set of clay/pottery soldiers, about the size of the elastolin/Lineol figures, each wearing their black capes carrying some type of submachine gun. Pretty neat little guys. I don't think these are that easy to find.

Hi! let me show you this one I just include in my collection; an Ehrenbeil with 50 years award, year 1923 and a legend FF Eutin, at first I tought it was the name of the distinged fireman but after some search in google now I'm inclined to reas it as: Fuhrer Firebrigade Eutin, beeing Eutin a city in the north of Germany. Looking at carefully there's some differences between both: the roundels in the upper part of the handle are wider in this one than the first one, also the bottom fit is not the same shape, the condition is not mint but still a great display piece. best regards.

Nice example there. Nice dedication too. Finding the hanger setup will take some time, but they are out there. They usually consist of a wide leather belt loop suspending two leather straps. The suspension straps have snap clips on the end. They in turn attach to the rings on either side of the of the upper handle. There many other configurations though.

Tom Wittmann at http://www.wwiidaggers.com/ May have what you are looking for listed in the accouterments section. I have seen examples on his site for sale from time to time. If he doesn't have a set now he may have one or two later. I hate to send you to a big dealer, but when it somes to accouterments such as this, he may be your best bet. Be prepaird though, the hangers are rare and may cost you more then you want to pay........but...they can be found albeit, at a price.

Yeah. I hope he was referring to the one you posted, in the link, Jo. (which turned out to be different)

Santi, the one in the link is a Modern day copy(i think it even say`s so in in the auction description). The only reason i posted that link, is because i know the guy who started this thread is active on that auction-site/house. Hence the ?
I think Andy read the top, and then scrolled down to answer, missing all the other posts.
Or visa versa
