Dear Felix, these are pieces I photographed as the things passed my way and migrated elsewhere. If you are ever in my area, please write and I shall show you what I do own such as it is. I am not in the habit of showing off in these spaces with personal property, as it excites envy and resentment, as I am sure you can well understand. My goal is not so much property as status, but knowledge for the world of seekers like you and me....
I own more of these than the average, but I am merely the steward of such items for a certain time in the flow of history and then these things go elsewhere, in the hope that they are preserved for some higher purpose than usually obtains on these websites.

the search for the proper brown shirt is always arduous..... This uniform appeared in Manion's in 1978 and made its way across No. America in the years thereafter.

The uniform from Saarbruecken has a roman numeral cuff title. This caused a stir, but I believe such connotes the HQ staff of the I Sturmbann of said Standarte.....

To be sure, this is not a uniform from the SS Totenkopfverbaende HQ in Oranienburg, but it is also quite authentic...I prefer an authentic, if humdrum uniform to the glamor and glitz....

Surely others here have something of merit to contribute....or is this site a tomb?

Fontane
14th October 2009, 20:46
Have others no foetid woolens to share here? We share the eager look on these faces....

Fontane
16th October 2009, 01:14
still no mouldy old clothes? These are the property of Peter Jenkins, of course.

or is this the reality of the thing? A monument to the transitory essence of our passion.

Yes, tombsville I think. There isn't much activity on this forum. I collect Wehrmacht uniforms and my mentor collects Waffen-SS and whenever I put up anything of mine or his, it falls on silence. Ever notice that whenever somebody puts up something really special it gets a few comments (nice stuff, etc.), whereas you put up a piece of junk and you get 500 views and 315 comments? Why is that?

Nice stuff although I never did get interested in the Allgemeine-SS. Still nice stuff.

Well Gents, I enjoy reading your Posts and seeing your items! I don't Chip in as its a subject i no Nothing about. Over in the Document Section you can see Many threads---Some Hard to find Docs etc) with No Replies! Guess it's the price you pay for specialising.

Well that would depend what you call junk ? The way i see it, is that This forum has a different Class of Poster. Most users here are well experienced collectors, Authors, researchers etc etc, now i speak for myself when i say this, but i`m sure i have most behind me as well, i for one don't see the point in endless praise and merit, and one lined posts that say "Wow, Great, nice piece...or Yes i agree... or Me too....." If i don't have any meat to add, then i tend to stay away from the one liners.
Most other Forums are the opposite, with posters calling Fake and Hailing praise in the same sentence, over and over again.......... IMO

My post above was in regards to seeing more black SS material than is customary here or elsewhere. There is a small group of people who possess a given group of items, and it has not changed significantly in years. Such was the point of my post. My hope was to see more, which did not eventuate.

Also activity is not comprised merely of the bi polar syndrome of either blind, slavish praise or the churlish, idiot hectoring that is dominant on the popular sites. I am asking for more data, documents, hypotheses, stimulus for further reflection. Na und?

I rejoice that the quality of interventions here is superior to some websites, for which I am thankful.

After all, as it says in Nathan the Wise, no one should be compelled, and so it is here, too.

Happy woolens to all. PS this tunic is not mine, but that of a confederate of mine in the US Southwest. It is an example of what the internet brought forth a few years ago, but seems to do no longer. The reasons for same are embodied in this exchange.

Oh well, it was worth a try, but plainly this site has other priorities. This is a foetid woolen, but it is not black, as you can infer.

I enjoy this very much. Can't remember that I ever have seen so many black togheter on another forum. I guess most of the persons who own such treasures are not so keen on showing it to everybody. So I thank you all for this very fine display pictures. Besides the money -that you simply need to have for creating this- it keeps me wondering how long it take to find all these thing nicely togheter and the neccesary knowledge when buying them in a world spoilt by fakes.

Regards, Wim :)

Thanks for the kind words. I own more than I have shown, in fact.
Such applies to others, as well. It is a sad part of this little endeavor, really.
Much of the 21st century is for the birds, really, in its effect on the cardinal and secondary virtues. The world is spoilt by fakes and their shadow over us all in the collector biotope. Thanks to my friend in the UK for showing his SS treasures which we know from the former sites.

Dear Colleague, thanks. I inherited the table a long time ago. It is quite wobbly, actually. All the best to you and I am not sure I can offer much in the way of enlightenment. I think I have unearthed a number of retreads. My camera died a while ago, and I am so bored that I have not bought a new one.

Dear Felix, we have corresponded about this and my offer stands. There is some merit to discretion in this world. Too many pictures of too many things only causes resentment, jealousy and frustration. I have shown some things and it will remain at that for the time. My real professional life is so conflicted and full of distractions that it is hard for me to focus on all of this. And, truth be told, the evolution of the other sites has made me much more reluctant to share things. But I appreciate your wish and shall honor it in an indirect manner someday.

your humble, Fontane

Thanks. It took a long time and more money than sense, I think. The knowledge piece is the most critical, I think, and the most problematic. The world spoilt by fakes is an apt description of our lot. I, for one, have less enthusiasm for it all in the last few years, and I know some other collector chums of mine who share the sentiment. I think some of our work here with the postings has backfired as much as it might have been of aid to some of you.

I could not duplicate my collection any longer, that is certain.

Best wishes, Fontane
