Hi Guys, well this is not a photo, nor is it paper, being painted on canvas but I thought that I would share it with you here.

It is a large oil painting of a Heer Panzer NCO from my collection. It was painted in 1942 by an artist named "A. Herrmann".

The painting was purchased in the early 1990's from Poland. It had some damage with several chips of paint missing, which I had restored. This happened went the seller dropped it! The canvas also needed to be rebacked to make the picture tight in the frame. All this cost rather a lot to do, but I felt the subject matter was worth the expence.

Sadly the soldier's identity is unknown. I often wonder if he made it though the war?

Cheers, Ade.

Ade,

Is that pink or red piping around the collar and elsewhere? Red for panzer-artillerie? That was early war wasn't it? Didn't they do away with Panzer-Artillerie specifically and put those vehicles into other formations? I think they did away with all of the different waffenfarben around the collars and skull collar tabs too. Neat painting.

Hi Bob, it is certainly red in the portrait, however, what with "artist's licence" etc I have never paid too much heed to it. But like you say, it would be nice to think it was artillery, as that was a short lived piping on the black Panzer jacket.

Cheers, Ade.
