I've been collecting rings since the mid 1970's. I have what I'd call a large collection of originals and unfortunately a few 'clunkers' [fake]. I got burned on a ring when I first started. It was sold to me by a dealer as an original and that he bought it from a vet with a large amount of other 3rd Reich items that all turned out to be original..
I liked the ring and wanted to show it around,,but to who? It was probably 1976 and I looked around the show and remember thinking there is actually no one that would know 100% about this thing.. So,I took a chance and $75. later it was mine.. It took a few months before I found out it was a fake,,and not only a fake, but a fantasy!
I still remember that feeling of knowing I got cheated. But by whom? the dealer? The vet who sold it to him? Or maybe someone who traded / sold it to the vet? No one knew much about private purchase rings back then.
I've learned much since then.. I still have that ring!,,and I'll post a photo of it because its an old fake, one that many may not have seen..
I'm also going to list a bunch of sites that sell fakes and fantasies. Study the rings on these sites. NONE of them are the quality you would see on a true original 3rd Reich ring..
Maybe you'll notice a ring you own and are wondering about.
Some of these dealers buy these repros and don't do anything to them and sell them as they got them! So hopefully you will NOT spot one of your rings on these sites.. What you might find are reproductions of rings you own. Even with bad photos you should be able to distinguish the copy and your original,,,and if you can't , please start a topic on it and hopefully we can help you out..
Please, if you run across a site on the Internet with reproduction rings post the site here.. Thanks , G.
