View Full Version : British Army Welfare Services map
Hi. Got this today. Not quite sure when it was printed, but what I find interesting is what it was printed on. Regards Thomas

Hi Tom, I have one just the same  I think these are great talking points.
Cheers, Ade.
Great Ade. I thought this might be a dud, but am happy to see someone else also has one. Any idea as to when these were printed? Has to be after the end of hostilities, I presume. There must have been a heck of a load of German maps laying around for them to use for printing these on. Was there such a shortage of paper at that stage? Regards Tom

Hi Tom, I am 99% certain these were printed in 1945. Certainly no later than 1946. Mine came with some other paperwork belonging to an RAF serviceman.
There was a real paper shortage in Europe at this stage and into the early post war years and nothing was wasted. I even have a US Army map which was turned into a envelope by a Belgian lad writing to a British soldier who was once billeted with his family.
Cheers, Ade.

Hi Tom, I will dig out the letter etc and post it here.
BTW I have now doubled checked my map and it has a print dated of "3/45".
Cheers, Ade.
