This was the sleeve insignia worn by all Waffen SS Mountain troop units.

This example was brought home by a British Veteran and glued into his s**** book, hence the traces of paper on the reverse.

Cheers, Ade.

It is a classic and still comparably cheap original SS insignia to find. This style is the classic style that was also found en masse in Dachau. Real uniform removed ones are hard to find.

This one becomes even nicer with the glue from the back being removed from an album IMO.

Cheers,
Felix

Hi Felix, I am glad you think the same way as I do.

Did you notice that this one is a Friday afternoon/Monday morning made example? The border on the right side is a bit thin and badly exucuted.

Cheers, Ade.

I did not notice that actually:001_rolleyes:

Maybe the factory was lit down due to an air raid or it might just have been a fault. A friend of mine bought an original SS cap edelweiss with a minor error in the embroidery. Well, these things happened.... :001_cool:

Nice edelweiss!

looks like they have run out of thread on the top spindle or lower spindle thus the covering stitiching is missing over the packing stitching in that section, unlike modern machines the period machines did not stop when such happened they relied on the operator to notice this, and depending how many machines the operator was looking after (normally 2) it could be some seconds before they noticed.

My Waffen SS Gebirgjagers sleeve insignia is a part of a display. In future i will buy a SS bevo collar tab to complete it:
