Just got this today. I have had a few reichsheer buckles but never one with the original belt! The reason I know the belt is original to buckle is because it has the same markings on the leather tab as on the belt shown in these pictures. The makers name and date is stamped on the tab but hard to see. The date has stitching over one of the numbers so can't make that out either. I think it is very neat when you can get a matching belt and buckle!

Hi Rod, cracking set, lovely nickel buckle, can you make out the makers mark on the tab?

could it be Schmoelle & Co. from Menden, who manufactured such buckles after 1918.

Hi Rod, it is a very nice rig.

The date must really be 1928 I think? As 1918 is too early and by 1938 the design has changed.

Cheers, Ade.

In 1925 the shown eagle form was introduced (February 28). According regulations it should have the field-grey color. The rectangular buckles then did not have a pebbling. Since spring 1927 the new Neusilber version with pebbling was allowed to be worn with the entry of April 1 (order came later: July 22). (Letters from the Reichswehrministerium).
With an order from January 1, 1936 the new eagle pattern (the type we all know) was introduced. These buckles could be from leight-weight metals, as well as Neusilber (Oberbefehlshaber des Heeres-order).
In the oval the shown buckle will have 1928 and surely not 1918, as Schmoelle manufactured merely claw-buckles, as far as is known. Since 1918 this concern manufactured for various Weimar-organizations.

Thanks for the info and complimnents on this rig. I will use a magnifier and see if I can make out the makers name on the tab and also see if I can make out the number that has stitching over it.

Wilhelm, I think you are correct on the maker? I can make out SCHM on the top and M for the first letter and N for the last letter on the bottom of the oval. This belt has been really used so a lot of the markings are worn off. As far as the date I can see 19 8. The stitching completely wiped out the other number. One question I think the letters 6./A.R.68 2 are a unit number? Does anybody have an idea of what it was for or was? Thank You for the all the help.

Hi Rod, it is marked to Artillery Regt 68. You can find info on the Regt here, but it dates from the Third Reich era, but it still might be of interest for you:
