Hi

I do not see very many of these and so I thought it would be worthwhile posting and some members may find it interesting.

I bought this at an auction and wanted it as it was an unusual item that are seldom seen.

Upon researching the Sparbuch, it was interesting to discover the following information.

Name: Bürger, Karl-Heinz
DOB: 16th February, 1904

SS Number: 156,309
Party Number: 68,902
Rank: Oberführer

Decorations & Awards:
EK I & II
APB
Blood Order
Golden Party Badge
NSDAP Long Service Awards

He was captured in Italy in May 1945 and later transferred to a POW camp in England.

You can read more about Bürger at the following website

http://www.specialcamp11.fsnet.co.uk/SS-Oberf%FChrer%20und%20Oberst%20der%20Polizei%20Karl-Heinz%20B%FCrger.htm

Here are some images of the Sparbuch for you.

Hi Raymond, do you know any more info about what happened to him post war?

Cheers, Ade.

Hi

I have not taken the research any further so I am not sure.

If any members have any additional information then it would be good to hear.

That is my main problem when I research items. I find out the information up to the end of the war, but in the majority of cases, I am left pondering what happened to these people post-war, if they are still alive etc.

Maybe that is just the way my mind works

Raymond-

Sparbucher are extremely rare, but to have one to a Blutorden, Golden Party Badge and Antipartisan badge is just more than just about any collector could ask for.

Absolutely outstanding. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful piece of SS history with us :thumbup1:

Could someone explain a little about a Sparbuch? What kind of document is this?

And Ray, for sure is a great piece.

Hi Jim

Your best bet for this one is to start another thread and then hopefully either Ian or Rob will spot it as they know so much more about Ausweis than I do. You seem that you are more than well catered for on the research, otherwise I would have offered to do some preliminary research for you.

Carlos, I am learning more about Sparbuch, which were a form of savings book. I have see mention of them in personnel files and it appears that dependent on rank, a certain amount of money was set aside.

I have not researched the books that much, but have it on my long, long list of things to learn more about.

They are certainly very interesting and something that I have not really come across before.

Jim-

That's a SS-VT "Truppenausweis" you have. They are made of green oilcloth (obviously) and these particular ausweis were issued as a form of identification for members of the SS-Verfügungstruppe. There are multiple versions of this oilcloth Ausweis that were produced in different colors and used by the SS as identity documents, one example being a light green oilcloth "Dienstausweis" used for members of the SS-Totenkopf-verbände. Another example, produced in a similar light green oilcloth, was the SS-Führerschulen Dienstausweis.

From what I have gathered, these were used from roughly mid-late 1935 / early-mid 1936 through the end of 1939 (the earliest example I have was issued in June of 1936, but I have been told that there are some examples dating from 1935 – I have yet to see one!) These Ausweis were phased out when Soldbücher were issued at the beginning of the war. The latest dated entry I have seen on a SS-VT Truppenausweis was a promotion entry made in October 1939, so they were definitely used after Soldbücher were issued.

Judging from the image, yours looks like a nice, worn original. If you can post a better quality pic of it in the Soldbuch or SS forum, I'd be happy to have a closer look. I would also like to have a good quality scan for my digital archive, if you'd be willing to send me one

Hope this helps.

Hello,

Any chance to have a look at the page with the Bandenkampfabzeichen details?

Stunning piece anyway!

These savings books are rare.

I'm lucky to have Karl Wolff's.

Hi Bob

Many thanks for your comments. I have not seen another before or since I got mine. I recall that the seller had done little research on the book and I filled in some information after I bought it. It was certainly satisfying to discover more about Bürger.

If anyone else does have one, then I would love to see another example.
