Hi Guys, here is my Ssch36. I bought this one in the UK some years ago now for £80, but I was told it came from Finland along with some others.
The original liner has been taken out and replaced with a larger size. This is very common in this pattern helmet. In the Winter War against Finland in 1940 it was found the new M40 Ushanka winter cap would not fit, so out came the liner and corrugated steel band.
Shell came in three sizes, 1 to 3. This is a size "2". Paint is original. This helmet with it's dark coloured paint may well be a very late production example from 1941, a full two years after it should have been replaced by the Ssch39. It also lacks the painted red star insignia from the front as commonly seen pre war. Another indication of late production.
Anyone have a chinstrap to spare?
Cheers, Ade.
