Hi to everyone,
2 Godet brothers, the screwback was the first of my little collection (35 Iron Cross since 1870 until 1957).

"the screwback was the first of my little collection "
I'd say that you got off to a pretty good start!

Hi Gew44
Nice matched pair you have there. I always wanted to add a nice screwback EK1 to my collection. I even bought one once. After getting it home and doing a little homework I found out that I was the proud owner of a genuine Floch Fake. I received my money back the next weekend. It came from a trusted source. Now as should been, even if it's a trusted source, the homework is done first.:thumbup1:
I'll have one someday. Really nice to see both examples by the same maker.

Superb examples Massimo. Godet EKs always seem to be more about quality than other manufacturers.

I always thought the srewbacks were early production. If so, why the LDO mark? Perhaps someone can explain it to me.

The earliest production screwbacks had that distinctive 'Sunburst' screwplate - they were mostly schinkel form crosses or with a hollow core. These were officially forbidden in 1940 and never LDO marked since they were not instituted until 1941
They were replaced in 1941 by the 'standardised' screwback cross that you can see posted - ie the same as the pinback but for the substitution of a screwplate. These were marked with an L number either on the screwplate or the cross

"L/52" - marked screwbacks are common. I also have screwbacks marked "L/54" and "L59". "L/16", "L/18" -- there are quite a few, actually. (And don't forget the plentiful Souval "L58"s.)

Also F&B L/56 crosses are marked on the Screwplate not the Cross Itself. Along with Souval L58.
They are the only makers to do this.

Quincy is absolutely correct.

Thanks for clarifying that for me. So much to keep straight in such a little brain.
