Sorry, can't find the chart on my new comp. This list is curtosy of Garry M.

The colours used for the Oberbanne within the Reich were:

Oberbann 1 - red
Oberbann 2 - yellow
Oberbann 3 - green
Oberbann 4 - blue
Oberbann 5 - black
Oberbann 6 - white

Thanks Frank, I can't find my old list.

I wonder why they went with a black rune on the yellow background? A white rune would have shown up I would think.

If I have seen other than Oberbann 1 examples and your Oberbann 4 example it's been so long ago I do not recall. Are the 2-6's far and few between?

Most of the ones I see, I don't like because they all seem to be mint condition. The black rune on a white background was also used by the NPEA. I have another with a litze around the rune, I will take a picture of it soon and post.

Hello to all interested,

here is the plate with the runes from Die Uniformen der HJ, issue 1933.
Included the six for enlisted ranks, according to Oberbann-indications, as well as the at that moment existing nine for leaders. Note the six for Oberbannfuehrer that have a slight colored ring only, which do show the Oberbann-indication.
Note that the two at left with the reddish backing are being faked in the sixties and seventies. They were stocked for about 25-30 years, got patina and mothing and are sold for original!

For those that are interested my contribution to these insignia,
the official description as published January 15,1934 in the book
"Bekleidung und Ausrüstung der Hitler-Jugend", which one can see
as a sort of early handbook. It was in those days the first official
uniform-regulation with in-depth text from the RJF.
Pages 90, 91 and 92. It is in German so some may have their reading
problems with it.

And here the description as published in the 1936 "Herstellungsvorschriften",
the manufacturing regulations, from the Reichszeugmeisterei, pages 148-149.

Hey Frank (and others),

here an image of the number of runes patches from a friend with an enormous collection of cloth insignia, flags, headgear, belt-buckles etc.
When I collected I had a few, missing the black version. No leaders at all.
But remind this friend of mine does collect maybe fifty years or longer!

Fabulous collection Wilhelm, I dream of being able to find that many variants. Thank you for showing the picture, it gives me more inspiration to seek out more of these great patches.

I do not recall in my many shows ever seeing a worn example. You are a dedicated collector.

I have been told by a few people a story of a person going to an rzm store and finding a horde of unissued sigrunes. Story is the owner made him remove all the rzm tags and throw them away because of the swastika. The person that found all these sold them for a few years in small batches through "Der Gaultier" many years ago. I was told that's why there are so many unissued sigrunes that have no rzm tags. :confused1:

Frank hello,

yes, such "stories" are true. Anyway I know at least two Germans that found
shops and stocks from manufacturers and sold them of course in mint condition. But this is not something from the last ten years. What I know from the both is at least 20-25 years ago or more.

Thank you for the reply Wilhelm. I suppose this is why I look for sigrunes that appear to have been used. I'm sure this could be faked easily, but I like the appearance of the worn patches compared to the new.

427 = manufactured by one of the well-known manufacturers from Wuppertal-Oberbarmen: Lucas & Vorsteher. They already had a permission in 1934.

A question regarding the early (pre 1933) sigrunes. In the reference books there are earlier sigrunes of various color combinations that don't match the Oberbann structure colors of 1933-34. I have a few of these also. What did the colors represent? Were these colors representative of the Landesfarben? I am refering to the red rune on a white field, red rune on a blue field, black rune on a blue field, etc.
