Hi Guys, to kick off the new forum, I though that I would start with the award which I use as my avatar.

This example is from the 1985 re-issue. In that year all surviving WW2 Veterans should have recieved this award in recognition of their service. These 1985 issues differ to the wartime examples in the raised lettering to the makers mark and the hammer & sickle is integeral and not a separate fitting made of real gold. There are four variations to be found, produced between 1984 and 1991, by 10 different factories. Mine was produced by the Bonnitsky Jewelry Factory.

This is the second class version. The first class had a gilt finish to the sun burst behind the star.

As usual with most Soviet awards, the back is serial numbered. Sadly for this particular issue, they cannot be researched. (Unlike wartime issues) They were issued with an award booklet.

The fitting is the usual Soviet screwback. I have taken off the backing plate for the pics.

These are still available to buy quite cheaply usually priced between £10 and £20. Prices are slowly rising though like everything else we collect.

Cheers, Ade.

Ade-
Well done. Great looking awards, although I must say knowledge is very limited on anything Soviet. Studying American, German and Japanese has been time consuming to the point that i'd be afraid to even breach areas such as awards of the UK, USSR, Italian, etc.

I've always had a thing for enamled awards. Those are really nice.
