User Names
The rules are simple on user names. If the user name is considered offensive, contains a coded message or is simply ridiculous, your name will either be rejected at registration. Failing that, you will be asked to choose a more suitable name when you have registered.
Variations on your name, or a nickname, are fine. Some people even have a name that reflects their collecting interests or their profession.
What you have to carefully consider is what your user name tells other members about yourself. They cannot see you and chat to you and so to begin with, the only things they can use to make a judgement on you is your user name, avatar and profile. I have found repeatedly that members with silly names tend to get fewer responses as some members do not consider they take the forum seriously or the subject area.
In addition, it is not really fair to mislead people by having a user name of a real name like ‘John Smith’ when your real name is something completely different. It will lead to mistrust and the obvious question of what you have to hide if you are ever found out.
User names deemed inappropriate will be rejected at the registration stage.
I can fully understand the need for anonymity on a forum, especially if you are new here. After a while you will come to realise that it is a friendly community and you may want to change your user name. To do this either send me a PM, or email info@worldwarmilitaria.com and in the subject field write ‘Member Name Change’ clearly stating your current user name and the one you would like.
