I have a uniform for a Major in Artillery Regiment 26. It is a pre-war tailored uniform with no name or tags. With the ribbon bar I would expect that this is from around 1940-41. Any suggestions on how to proceed?

Hello, and welcome to the forum. I am assuming that you hope to identify the owner of the jacket.
I think this will be difficult to accomplish. The Rgt. was established in '36 and was active as late as Sept '44. While it will be possible to source all men within the likely time frame, you will be dealing with a pool of one or two dozen of likely candidates, if not more, and in the absence of personal information, you would never be able to definitively link the uniform to one man. Further, while the ribbons indicate '40-'41, it is possible that the uniform was used much later and the owner simply did not receive any other awards or decorations.
Please let me know if I misunderstood your post. It is a beautiful tunic, congratulations.

Mike,
I agree that there are some significant challenges in identifying the owner. I am working on several important assumptions.
1. The uniform is high quality with high roll back cuffs.
2. I beleive the ribbon bar is original and it has a Czech occupation bar with a clasp. Since the 26th Arty Rgt didn't participate in the Czech occupation, I beleive this was an officer who transfered into the 26th.
3. The last thing is that the uniform includes the original breeches. They are for a man of at least 300 lbs.
I also believe that he only wore this particular uniform into late 1941 or 1942.
I have had this uniform for almost 15 years. I waited 6 hours for it to come up at an auction.

I thought I saw the Prague bar on the ribbon, but can you provide a larger/clearer image of, or identify, the remaining ribbons.
If you are limited by the site posting restrictions, you can email the images to me at

The large size does add a clue. Are there any manufacturing marks or codes in the interior?
