Here are some photos my dad took while in Ludwigslust, Germany. There was a big LW base there and when the 82nd Airborne was in the area, they used the airfield for glider training. They had met the Russians and the war was winding down. Dad told me they were all P/O because some officer wanted to keep the men occupied and ordered them to practice glider flights.

The "today" pictures were taken this year by a teacher that took a group of students over. It is an annual trip to educate the local Germans all about the Wobbelin Concentration Camp just outside of town. The area was in the Russian zone and they twisted/omitted history to their liking. The Russians used the airfield for years before leaving Germany for good.

It is a shame that there is no "value" in refurbishing this hangar. As we all know, useful buildings are intentionally being destroyed because of their history.

The Fighter Factory in Va Beach, VA has purchased a Luftwaffe hangar originally built in Cottbus (?) and is having is disassembled and moved to their facility.
