i have had always on my mind to buy a japanese sword. I have been always a fan of these swords but i donīt know how to find one and what are their estimated prices.

I would like an old sword, for example 1400 year or something like that, but obviously they will be super expensive i think.
I found a internet page where they were sold and they was about 1500 euro up. http://www.japanesesword.com/
I have not absolutely idea about them so please donīt laught at me

if these old swords are super expensive i would like to buy a japanese WW2 sword.
can someone guide me for this way?

Hi,

I'm no expert neither. But if you see a documentary how such a sword was made, your holding your breath. It takes a few 24 hours days before some men have created the rough steel or iron that's suitable for the sword. A master sword maker carrefully selected a few pieces of the material for making the sword. The actuall proces takes many weeks of labor by more then one man. And after that the sword goes to an experted polisher who uses stones No kind of grinding wheel or polishing wheels is involved. He just polishing it with the stone in the hand.:blink::blink:
That's always with those Asians: You can make things that are almost perfect. But hey, they go much farther then 'almost' perfect.

I believe a nice katana cost about 20.000 euro or more. But I'm not suprised if you know the story behind it. Besides that it's the most stunning blade ever made in the world. It is the first thing that I would buy if I was a rich man. No SA- high leader for me or a Feldhernhalle dagger. Just the Katana !!

Regards, Wim :)

I strongly recommend Mr. Robert Benson of Honolulu, Hawaii. Bob trained as a Japanese sword polisher in Japan in the late 1950's. During his training, he won numerous awards for his work. t that time, this was unheard of recognition in Japan. Bob has a reputation for honesty and integrity. Your will not get any steals but you will get what you pay for. Bob travels back and forth to Japan on a monthly basis. He has many contacts in the sword world and can get you what ever you desire.

I'm not an expert in Japanese swords, but a friend of mine with an extensive collection was reasonably well respected in that area and he shared some of his insight with me. What was important was the blade. With the mounts secondary, and many valuable old swords were kept in relatively plain wooden storage scabbards. And if you add in like condition period mountings, it is probably going to be very expensive, and you really do need an expert to make sure the money is well spent.

I don't know what they go for now, but if a hand made sword is wanted then a later made blade in a set of Army or Navy mounts might work. Or a really nice "factory made" sword in military mounts (which still has a fair amount of history attached) might be another viable option. FP

Javi-
Do not buy from Ebay. If you are an inexperienced Japanese sword collector, you would be an easy mark for some of the junk coming out of China.
