Welcome to World War Militaria
World War Militaria is an apolitical hobby site dedicated to the collecting of militaria and the research of all nations involved in and affected by the major conflicts of the 20th Century. WWM’s sole purpose is to create a community of individuals who share a common interest, namely that of collecting and researching historical militaria.
This is the long version of the rules. This sub-forum also contains short versions of each part of the guidelines to make it more digestable.
Member Posting Conduct
The WWM is a forum dedicated to collectors and researchers who have a keen interest in the major world conflicts of the 20th Century.
To be successful, it is critical that the forum is a friendly place to visit if it is to become a global community where people can learn and form friendships with other members across the world.
To that end the rules are set in place to protect members and allow this learning process to occur in a friendly environment free from intimidation, harassment or ridicule. The forum does not allow vulgar language, personal attacks of any kind, offensive terms, hateful and extremist views or political bias and politically driven debate.
Comments that do not adhere will be removed from the forum and depending on the severity, may result in. In the case of extremist views, it will certainly lead to immediate expulsion as the WWM forum will not be used as a platform to air such views. World War Militaria reserve the right to expel members, remove, edit, close and delete threads for any reason.
Failure to adhere to these most basic of guidelines of courteous behaviour to others will simply not be tolerated and such actions could well lead to suspension or expulsion from the forum.
Disclaimer:
Any posts made, and comments expressed on this forum, are solely the responsibility of the individual and the forum takes no responsibility for any views, opinions, their accuracy or usefulness.
We will monitor threads and posts by individuals to make sure they adhere to the guidelines, but given the real time nature of the forum, it is not always possible to quickly edit or delete all posts that are in breach of the guidelines. If a member thinks the above guidelines have been broken, then PM the moderator of that forum and it will be investigated.
Registration & Membership Types
Registration Requirements & User Names
To able to use many of the features of the forum, such as viewing images, you will need to register.
To be able to register you will need:
1) A valid email address – You will be asked to confirm the registration via email. If a valid email address is not provided then your registration will be rejected. After registration, it is important to keep your contact email address up-to-date so that the forum is able to contact you.
2) User Names – At registration, inappropriate use names will not be accepted. We ask that you try and use your real name, a variant of such or a nickname.
User Names
The rules are simple on user names. If the user name is considered offensive, contains a coded message or is simply ridiculous, your name will either be rejected at registration. Failing that, you will be asked to choose a more suitable name when you have registered.
Variations on your name, or a nickname, are fine. Some people even have a name that reflects their collecting interests or their profession.
What you have to carefully consider is what your user name tells other members about yourself. They cannot see you and chat to you and so to begin with, the only things they can use to make a judgement on you is your user name, avatar and profile. I have found repeatedly that members with silly names tend to get fewer responses as some members do not consider they take the forum seriously or the subject area.
In addition, it is not really fair to mislead people by having a user name of a real name like ‘John Smith’ when your real name is something completely different. It will lead to mistrust and the obvious question of what you have to hide if you are ever found out.
User names deemed inappropriate will be rejected at the registration stage.
I can fully understand the need for anonymity on a forum, especially if you are new here. After a while you will come to realise that it is a friendly community and you may want to change your user name. To do this either send me a PM, or email info@worldwarmilitaria.com and in the subject field write ‘Member Name Change’ clearly stating your current user name and the one you would like.
Multiple User Names
You are allowed one account and one user name. Do not register under multiple names.
It is against the rules to have more than one user name/account. Anyone found with multiple user names will be banned from the forum as it will be viewed as an attempt to deceive moderators and other members. Banned members cannot re-register to the forum as the ban does not cover that user name, but the person.
If you are having trouble logging in, forgot your user name or password, then there is a link under the login details page entitled 'Forgot Password' Enter the email address you registered with and they will be sent to you.
If you have forgot the email you registered with then please send an email to info@worldwarmilitaria.com. Do not re-register in an attempt to solve the problem.
Privacy Policy
World War Militaria value your privacy and we will not pass on, or sell your details to any third party for marketing purposes. We will only use your details for no other means that to content members.
To stop others from harvesting personal information, we ask that you resist posting any personal details regarding your address, phone number and email in a public forum as we take no responsibility for this.
Note: the only exception to the above is in criminal cases when World War Militaria will work fully with the authorities and submit any information we hold on the member concerned.

Disclaimer
The WWM is a private forum and as such membership is a privilege and not a right. As such we can decline any individual memberships as we see fit.
Posting Images
Feel free to post as many images on the forum as possible, but please adhere to these rules:
Offensive Images
Do not post images that may cause offence to other people. Remember that we have members from all walks of life, as well as different genders, religions and ethnicity.
If an image is posted and someone complains it is offensive then it is likely to be removed. This includes any offensive text in watermarks. What you find amusing another may find offensive, so think for a second before you make that post.
Using Picture Hosting Websites
Do not using images from image hosting sites. Here are the reasons for this stance.
Not only does it make viewing the thread much slower, but it ruins thread for future viewers as the images disappear over time and we are left with empty threads that are useless as a reference tool.
In my own experience, I am a lot less likely to offer advice on members who use them as they are usually slow to load and I know the images may not be there in a couple of weeks time so cannot see much point in helping as future members will not be able to learn from the thread.
Copyright
The forum takes no responsibility for the images that are posted. If someone reports an infringement of copyright and state their case, then the image will be removed. It is one thing to post up items for review, but do not pass them off as your own. Someone owns the image copyright somewhere.
Watermarks
Please, no watermarking of images with your commercial site, unless you are a sponsor. It is unfair to grab free advertising as sponsors have paid money to support the forum. Members will be asked to remove the watermark or have it removed for them.
Passing off images as your own on the sales tables
This is the easiest scam to pull and involves putting up items for sale for sale you do not or have never owned.
A fraudster will steal images from the internet and use the images to ‘validate’ their sales offering. If you are caught doing this you will automatically be reported to your local police for internet fraud.
There are no exceptions and so if you are thinking of trying this, I would consider whether you want the police knocking on your door! You have been warned.
Signatures
Signatures are tag lines that appear under your posts and contain a short line that could be about you, a favourite quote etc.
It is important to be aware that certain things are not allowed:
1. Commercial signatures to websites. The only people allowed commercial signatures allowed are for the sponsors of the site whose sponsorship contribution helps pay towards the running of the forum. There are absolutely no exceptions on this rule. If you break this rule you will first be given the chance to remove it and if you don't then it will be removed.
2. Anything that can be construed as being offensive to any member.
3. Images - no images should be attached to signatures whatsoever. They make members posts look cluttered and untidy and divert attention away from the member’s posts.
4. Keep them short. No essays or poems please. They should be a sentence at the most.
5. NO BLOCK CAPITALS. It is considered to be shouting in netiquette. It will also divert a readers eyes to what is important i.e. the post
6. If you are a site that is purely for research and the advancement of the hobby, then you may be allowed a signature to promote your work for the hobby. In these cases then send an email to info@worldwarmilitaria.com to have it agreed and I can add you site to a useful links section.
Note: If members repeatedly contravene the rules regarding signatures, then they will have their right to have a signature removed for a period of time.
Private Messages
Private messages, as the name suggests, are private and cannot be viewed by any moderator or administrator of the forum. As such, World War Militaria take no responsibility for their content.
However, please not that member posting guidelines also cover the private message system and a member can produce content of PM’s as evidence of breaches of the rules.
Moderators
Moderators are assigned to each forum. Their role is to keep the forum running efficiently and are at hand to help members with issues. They give up their own free time to help the forum and so help the membership.
We are all governed by the rules of the forum and so it is their role to ensure this happens and to keep the site on an even keel. They are bestowed powers to enforce the rules and as such, they should not be publicly argued with as a moderator will not get involved with a public debate on issues.
If you have an issue with any moderator, then this must be conducted in private and not on the public forums. This will only lead to the thread being removed and yourself liable to suspension or expulsion. If you have an issue with a moderator, or a complaint, then please email me directly at raymondg@worldwarmilitaria.com after first trying to resolve the issue directly with the moderator concerned.
WWM Militaria Market
Can I sell and how many items can I sell?
Dependent on the membership grade, you will be allowed a certain number of total items for sale. To avoid confusion, an item is defined as an individually priced item whether it be a single photograph or a large grouping.
New members and guests are not allowed to buy or sell items on the sales tables.
We may ask members to validate personal details, such as valid address details before being able to post sales threads.
Requirements
All items must be original and of that period, unless otherwise stated.
Any items posted must belong to the member and be in their physical possession. Selling items that you do not have in your possession or selling on behalf of another will lead to expulsion from the forum.
Items must be described as accurately as possible and be accompanied by a photograph(s). Items that have been photographed or digitally altered to improve their appearance are unacceptable and will be construed as an attempt to deceive the buyer.
In addition, any repairs done to the item that you are aware must be clearly stated.
If you are in any doubt as to the authenticity of an item, then please post it in the relevant forum first for discussion. In such cases, do not attempt to highlight that the item is up for authentication prior to sale, as this will be construed as selling an item outside the sales tables.
Shipping & Returns
* The member has the right to return the item if they are unhappy with it within 10 days of receipt. The item must be returned in the same condition and sent by traceable means.
* It is advised that all items are despatched via traceable means. Given the number of items lost each year in the postal service, it is worth paying a little extra to ensure you can trace your parcel.
* As the seller, you are expected to despatch the item in a reasonable time, unless there exists clear mitigating circumstances. Ideally, you should despatch the item within 5 working days of receipt of payment. You have received the payment and so you have a duty to the buyer to despatch the item(s) as quickly as possible.
* As a buyer, you are expected to pay for an item in a reasonable time. The seller will highlight any terms of the deal, including payment and it is your contractual obligation to meet these requirements. Ideally, you should pay for an item with 48 hours of the commitment to purchase.
* Links to commercial sites or any auction site is prohibited and the sales thread will be removed immediately.
Prices & Agreement to Purchase
A price must be clearly stated. There will be no Dutch auctions, offers for items or price range. A price needs to be clearly stipulated for any sales items. If not, then you will be asked to publish a price.
You have a responsibility to sell the item to the first person who responds with a definite agreement to buy the item. On the part of the buyer, anything which is vague does not constitute a commitment to buy and so no contract exists between two parties and you have no right to recourse.
Postage rates must be fair and equitable and must be an accurate reflection of posting and shipping costs. It cannot be used as a tool to increase the price of your item for sale.
Disputes
In the unlikely event of a dispute between the buyer and seller, please take all reasonable attempts to reach an amicable conclusion. If this is not possible, please contact a moderator of the sales table you purchased you item from, clearly stating the details. The moderator concerned will then investigate the dispute.
The final decision is binding and both parties must abide by the decision.
Failure to respond to moderators requests, will lead to the removal of any sales threads you have, and may result in the removal of your sales table posting rights, or in extreme cases, your expulsion from the forum.
Moderation of Sales Tables
Moderators are assigned to each sales table to help the administrative process. Their presence is not there to act as an endorsement of an item and the seller or buyer cannot expect them to validate each item that is posted for sale and they will not do so.
If a member spots an item which they believe to be other than stated, they should contact the member concerned, informing them and then start a thread in the appropriate forum for the item to be discussed.
If the item is found to be a reproduction, then the thread will be removed or the seller is expected to contact the moderator to ask for the thread to be removed.
General Posting Etiquette
* Keep your sales thread status up-to-date. If it is sold, on hold etc then please mark it as such. This helps to inform other members of the status, but also moderators so that they can remove sold items.
* Bumping your sales thread – you can only bump your thread once every three days. It is strongly advised that when it is bumped to the top, some form of discount or incentive is offered.
* It is forbidden to start threads in other forums advertising your sale. This includes using your signature for promotional purposes to a sales thread or in any images posted.
* Failure to follow these guidelines may result in your sales thread being removed, your right to sell items on the estand revoked. In extreme cases, it may result in expulsion from the forum.
Disclaimer
World War Militaria is in no way responsible for transactions that take place on the estand. We make no guarantees about the items for sale, or the validation and endorsements of the member selling items.
We will take reasonable steps to ensure a safe trading environment, but the responsibility for any deals that take place will be the sole responsibility of the parties involved. The forum only provides the platform for sales threads to be started.
