Holy smokes. Allow me to contribute nothing to the thread by saying "super piece".

The aluminum varients have stood up to time so darn'd well. An excellent representative example of an aluminum variety. Definitely one to hi-lite a Luft display. Well done. That Morroccan blue leather is pristine.

Did you pick 'er up from a dealers site? Examples in this condition are tough to come by.

There is a monthly show north of Boston and there was a dealer there who said he had more daggers at home. I went to his house to buy and SA but saw this. He was a WW2 Vet and has lots of stuff. I paid top dollar as others I have seen have been around $300 less. However, they are never in a condition as good as this one.

That's a stunning piece. You may be proud on such an addition to your collection. :thumbup1:

Last year I was also lucky enough to find a first model Luftw. dagger in comparable quality. An old man walked in a local militaria show and asked my dealer if he was interested in this dagger. He bought him immediately. The day after I already bought him over from him.

Regards, Wim :)

Wim,
Super nice Horster you got there.

The only 1st Luft I have now is a Klaas early nickel-silver piece. Not nearly in the same shape as these two. The early nickel silver pieces just didn't age as well as the aluminum varieties. My fliegerschwert is an early nickel-silver, and suprisingly in excellent condition..as far as these early flyers go.

Guys, some really nice pieces. Clearly, quality on these is exceptional. You'll never go wrong with pieces like that...especially when it comes time to resell.

Swordfish, the early nickle silver luftwaffe daggers are stunning pieces on their own. When they have a nice dark patina, gilded swastika's and leather in good condition they are as lovely as they can be. Much more appreciated as a perfect late aluminuim IMO. Much nicer is of course when you can find them both and displayed them side by side. :w00t: One of my futher goals...

Regards, Wim :)
