Hi Everyone,
May I have a look in your dagger library? With this question I want to hear some opinions about gathering information about Third Reich Daggers. How do collectors try to educate themselves nowadays? Are you buying every reference book that cross your path or do you find books old fashion and do you try to find your information only on forums and other militaria websites?
Personally I’m a bit old fashion and prefer the specialized reference work as the main source for my dagger education. Another thought that I have is that on the internet there is not much information available concerning the more elaborate and exotic daggers like the Göring wedding sword for instance. Or maybe the info is there but many collectors don’t look for it because they never can buy such special pieces. In a reference book they are only a few pages away of their common counterparts and you read about them just like you read abiut common daggers. Opinions? opinions! Opinions...
In my library you can find:
The old Atwood book “The edged weapons of Hitler’s Germany”
“Daggers of the Third German Reich 1933 -1945” by Andrew Mollo
The Johnson volumes I to VIII
“Wearing the Edged Weapons of the Third Reich” by Johnson
“Third Reich Edged Weapons Accouterments” by Johnson
“Reproduction? Recognition!” by Frederick J. Stephens
“Me fecit Solingen” by Skipper Greenwade.
“Daggers swords and bayonets of the Third Reich” by F. J. Stephens.
Third Reich Daggers 1933 -1945 by J.A. Bowman
The Wittmann volume 1,2 and 3 (I diden’t bought volume 4 because I sold my only SS dagger two years ago)
And also a few very old primitif reference works showed in the pictures below.
Regards, Wim :)
