Here is a well-known photograph taken in 1945 of the US 6th Armored Division on the autobahn near Giessen, Germany. It took me several hours to find the right place even though I was lived nearby. The contemporary view (from the 1990s) was taken from a bridge over Autobhan A5 east of Giessen, looking south in the direction of Frankfurt. In the background is the Fernwald/Lich autobahn exit. Sadly, this part of the autobahn is under construction and is now greatly altered from its 1945 appearance.

Here is another photograph comparison; this time of a spot where captured German officers watched vehicles of the 6th Armored Division pass by. The bridge in this photo is the same one from which the photo in post above was taken.

Marc...I love these "then and now" pics. I have some that I took during a trip to Gettysburg several years ago.
